GRAF Platin Indirect 3000L Rainwater Harvesting System
The GRAF Platin Indirect 3000L rainwater harvesting system collects and stores roof water for toilet flushing, washing machines, garden irrigation and outdoor cleaning. The package combines a shallow underground tank with an integrated filter, submersible pump, floating intake and header tank.
The system provides an automatic supply of harvested rainwater for suitable non-potable applications. Therefore, it can reduce the amount of treated mains water that a property uses throughout the year.
How does the indirect system work?
Rainwater flows from the roof through the downpipes and into the underground Platin tank. First, the integrated filter removes leaves and larger debris. The tank then stores the filtered water below ground, away from direct sunlight.
When the header tank requires water, the pressure-sensitive submersible pump draws rainwater through the floating intake. The pump then transfers the water to the header tank. From there, gravity supplies the connected toilets, washing machine and other appropriate outlets.
When rainfall becomes scarce, the water level inside the underground tank drops. As a result, the pump stops transferring harvested rainwater. A ball valve inside the header tank then controls the mains-water top-up. Consequently, the connected household outlets continue to receive water during dry periods.
For garden irrigation, an installer can connect an outdoor tap directly to the pump supply. However, the mains backup does not normally supply this outdoor tap when the underground tank runs dry.

Benefits of the Platin system
The shallow Platin tank profile helps reduce excavation depth. Therefore, it suits many sites where installers want to minimise groundworks.
In addition, the underground location keeps the stored rainwater cool and shields it from direct sunlight. Only the access cover remains visible after installation, which preserves valuable garden space.
The 3000-litre tank measures approximately 2450 mm long, 2100 mm wide and 735 mm high at the tank shoulder. Nevertheless, always consult the current technical drawing before excavation because the selected lid, access shaft, pipe levels and site conditions will affect the final installation depth.

Installation information
A competent installer should assess the tank location, ground conditions, pipe routes, overflow and electrical requirements before beginning work. Furthermore, the installation must keep the rainwater network separate from the potable mains-water supply.
The installer or customer will normally need to provide underground drainage pipes, service ducts, an electrical supply and a suitable overflow route. Cover requirements will also vary depending on whether the tank sits beneath a landscaped or trafficked area.
