Polylok Percolation Area Flow Divider

The percolation area flow divider divides or redirects effluent between two separate percolation areas or drainage fields. Its internal channel design can divide the flow equally between both outlets or direct the entire flow to either the left or right outlet.

All three connections accept 110mm (4-inch) pipe. Therefore, installers can connect the flow divider directly to standard underground sewer pipework without constructing a separate distribution chamber.

Product features

  • Manufacturer: Polylok
  • Product type: Flow controller and divider
  • Manufacturer’s part number: 3051
  • One 110mm inlet
  • Two 110mm outlets
  • Factory-set for equal flow division
  • Adjustable to direct flow left or right
  • Suitable for 100mm and 110mm pipe
  • Manufactured from strong ABS material
  • Resistant to corrosion
  • Flat surfaces for checking level installation
  • Suitable for above-ground or underground installation
  • Inspection port can be extended to ground level
  • Optional operating handle available separately
  • Suitable for residential and light commercial applications

Three operating positions

The internal valve offers three flow settings:

  • Equal distribution between both outlets
  • Full flow through the left outlet
  • Full flow through the right outlet

The equal setting allows both areas to receive effluent simultaneously. Alternatively, directing the flow to one side can allow an approved alternating percolation system to rest one area while the other remains in use.

Only change the operating position in accordance with the wastewater-system design or professional guidance.

Typical applications

The Polylok flow divider may suit:

  • Alternating percolation areas
  • Two separate drainage fields
  • Septic tank installations
  • Domestic wastewater treatment systems
  • Soil polishing filters
  • Gravity-fed effluent distribution
  • Residential and light commercial systems
  • Percolation-area upgrades

A conventional 7-hole distribution box may provide a better option when the installation requires more than two outlet pipes.

Installation guidance

Install the flow divider on a firm, stable base. Next, use the flat surfaces on the unit to confirm that it is level before connecting the pipework.

Connect the incoming 110mm pipe to the single inlet and connect each percolation area to one of the two outlets. The pipes should enter straight and remain adequately supported so that they do not place unnecessary strain on the unit.

Before backfilling:

  • Confirm the direction of the inlet and outlets
  • Check that the unit is level
  • Test all three valve positions
  • Check each pipe connection
  • Confirm that effluent reaches the intended area
  • Extend the inspection port when required
  • Keep the valve accessible for future adjustment
  • Record its position for future maintenance

The inspection opening may be extended to finished ground level using a suitable pipe section. As a result, the operator can adjust the valve without excavating the flow divider.

Do not install the access point where vehicles or heavy machinery may pass over it unless the complete chamber and cover arrangement has the required load rating.

Inspection and maintenance

Inspect the flow divider periodically for sediment, obstructions, damaged connections and free movement of the internal valve. Furthermore, check that the selected outlet receives flow correctly after making an adjustment.
